I have to admit that television is one of my guilty pleasures. Beyond the quality of the actors and content I am really enjoying the fashion on this show.
The 40's pin up look is hotter now then ever before. Swing dresses, peep toe pumps, victory rolls and Bakelite bangles. Online shopping is another guilty pleasure of mine and in my diligent searching I have compiled this pin up girl checklist.
Here are 6 easy steps to make the boys doll dizzy for an able-grable like you!
How to create your own pin up look for Spring/Summer 2010:
#1 Curves are the cat's meow
Show off your womanly figure. In the 40's fashion became more feminine. The dropped waist line went back to the natural waist line. Garments emphasized shoulders and bust, small waists, and skirts tailored to enhance broad hips. Patterns were bold and cheerful because, due to fabric rationing, women were making their house dresses from curtains, table cloths and their husband's old suits.
#2 Color is keen
Get creative with color. Colors of the 1940s were deep, rich, saturated hues, very vivid. Color was used to enhance style. Greens and turquoise would often be matched with maroons and rust-orange. Many colors were creatively used together, and the color was always worn in a stately way.
#3 Be well tressed
Hair is essential to Pin up style. Pin curls were tight and well defined. Some girls emanated "Rosie the Riveter" short hairstyles with modest curls tied up in a scarf. Other women wore their hair longer, twisting the front into side reverse rolls. The rolls frame the face meeting closely together on the top of the head creating a “V” shape, commonly called “Victory Rolls".
#4 Grandstand those gams
Silk and the newly popular nylon were hard to come by because they were needed to make parachutes for the war. What's a broad to do? Wear those stems bare ladies! Peep toes were key and high heels became higher.
#5 Take a powder
Make up was understated. Brows were manicured to a natural arc. Rosy cheeks were created by using a light blush. Shadows were worn in neutral browns and smoky grays. Lips were red and filled in beyond the lip line to emphasize the “Cupid's bow” curve of the top lip.
#6 Skin is in
Complexion, complexion, complexion. Healthy skin is the cherry on top of achieving your pin up look. The Ivory soap girl was the clean and pure ideal. To achieve a flawless face I suggest having a glycolic or enzyme peel at Suite 300 to transform your dull winter skin into peaches and cream.
